EVENT DETAILS

Rates of Play Main Sections

In all rounds the rate of play will be all moves in 110 minutes with 10 second increments from move 1

​

Foundation Section

All moves in 1 hour each—playing 2 games with each opponent, one with White and one with Black.

​

Default time 30 mins in all sections.

​

The ECF Aug 2023 rating list will be used for entries but Sep 2023 for pairing and rating.

​

In tournaments other than the Open, players with estimated ratings may not be eligible for the main prizes and are not eligible for Rating prizes in any section.

​

Junior means under 18 on 1st January 2023

Senior means over 65 on 1st January 2023

North East Player is a player based in: Northumberland, Durham, Tyneside or Cleveland.

Northumberland Junior is a player who plays for a club or team registered with the Northumberland Chess Association, or who lives in Northumberland or Tyneside.

​

Entry fees and donations will be used to cover costs and prizes, prizes may be adjusted according to total income.

​

Entries for the Stanowski team trophy are to be given to the congress organiser no later than the start of round 3.

​

Players in the main prize list will not normally be eligible for a grading prize.

​

COMPETITION INFORMATION

The TYNE & WEAR TROPHY will be awarded for the best result by a North East player in the OPEN, and is to be held for one year.

​

The IAN LAMBIE Trophy will be awarded for the best result by a North East player in the MAJOR, and will be held for one year.

​

The NORA HUNTER TROPHY will be awarded for the best result by a North East player in the MINOR, and will be held for one year.

​

The STANOWSKI Trophy will be presented to the club team of three, each in a different tournament, obtaining the highest aggregate score, and is to be held for one year.

​

The H.A. PERRY AWARD will be made for the most outstanding performance by a North East Junior.

​

ACCOMMODATION

There is a wide variety of places to stay in the lovely seaside towns of Tynemouth and Whitley Bay, as well as North Shields, all minutes away from the venue.


REFRESHMENTS

The Parks cafeteria will be open during most of the congress, although not late on Friday evening, here you can buy very reasonably priced snacks/hot meals/Sunday lunch etc.


Vending machines are available at all other times.
