With the launch of this website and publication of the entry form, the 57th Northumberland Chess Congress is off to a great start with over six months (just!) before the tournament begins on Friday 24th September. We have already had a number of enquiries over the last month, as well as numerous entries which have been held over from 2020, when the event had to be cancelled because of Covid-19 restrictions.
So as things stand, things are looking bright for a bigger and better tournament in 2021. Despite the absence of virtually all over-the-board chess since March 2020, these are good times for chess in the North East with this year's Cogress coming off the back of Northumberland's excellent victory in the 2020 ECF online county championships. A strong field in the Open tournament is virtually guaranteed and, in all sections, there will be plenty of players who have improved markedly playing online chess looking to see if they can translate their results into over-the-board chess.
